The Studio Display has a new firmware update that fixes intermittent speaker failures on some models.
Studio Display owners can obtain firmware version 15.5 by accessing System Preferences on their connected Mac. Select “Software Update” to check if the update is available.
The update was released by Apple just three days after the company acknowledged a speaker fault in the Studio Display. Users were reporting intermittent sound issues, and Apple called it a software issue.
Apple has offered a workaround to temporarily fix the problem by turning the display power back on. Since there is no power button, this means users have to unplug the monitor and then plug it back in.
According to the software release notesthe new update fixes the software issue causing some Studio Display speakers to fail.
The Studio Display has an A13 Bionic processor, and it appears to be running a variant of iOS. Firmware version 15.5 has a build number of 19F80, which is only a few digits higher than the iOS 15.5 version of 19F77.
