Cody Park features one of 5 regional stops in new Holiday Passport program

Christmas attractions in west central Nebraska make up a quarter of the 20 locations chosen for Nebraska Tourism’s first Holiday Passport program.

Santa’s Workshop, the annual display of decorated miniature homes in North Platte’s Cody Park, tops the area’s five attractions in the list released Tuesday by the national tourism agency.

Founded in 1947 in Memorial Park, the holiday exhibit moved to Cody Park in 2003. This holiday season will mark the 75th anniversary of Santa’s Workshop.

Other midwest Nebraska locations on the program’s list are Kinkaider Brewing Co. in Broken Bow, Rustic & Red in Cozad, Madrid General Store and Peppermill & EKV Lounge in Valentine.

Three additional Holiday Passport locations can be found in the Panhandle: the Mixing Bowl Café and Legacy of the Plains Museum, both in Gering, and the New Leaf Marketplace in Chadron.

Nebraska tourism officials said in a press release they want to build on the continued success of the Nebraska Passport summer program, founded in 2010.

“There are many festive and fun experiences to be had during the Nebraska holiday season, both from previous stops in our Summer Passport (program) and all-new destinations,” said Passport Program Coordinator, Madison Johnson.

“Passporting shouldn’t just be a summer activity,” added Nebraska Tourism executive director John Ricks.

While the 70-stop summer program includes themed “mini-tours,” the smaller version of the Holiday Passport focuses on the single theme of “our state’s best shops, restaurants and vacations,” according to the press release.

Travelers will have from November 19 to January 1 to visit the attractions and get their stamps. Physical Vacation Passes will be available at participating stops from mid-October or can be pre-ordered at
