Netflix’s The Fall of Usher House Wraps Filming

Fall of The House of Usher didn’t have an easy shoot, but it looks like Mike Flanagan’s latest horror series is over.

The latest Netflix series from Mike Flanagan, Fall of House Usher, didn’t have the easiest filming, but it looks like the horror series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe is over. The success of the tastes of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass has ensured that Flanagan’s relationship with Netflix continues to bring more new horror shows to the platform, and the latest miniseries once again brings back some of the writer/director’s frequent collaborators, including Carla Gugino, Carl Lumbly, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas and Kate Siegel.

Although production on the series began in January, Fall of House Usher met with a huge stumbling block due to misconduct allegations against lead actor Frank Langella. After a hiatus from the filming schedule, it was announced that Langella’s role as Roderick Usher was to be recast, and the role was taken over by Bruce Greenwood. Although this happened in April after filming had started for a while, it seems that since then things have moved forward at a reasonable pace, and as Flanagan said in a Posting on Twitter, what he achieved in the end was four series in three years despite everything. He wrote:

“A few minutes ago we wrapped production on THE FALL OF THE USHER HOUSE, closing a huge chapter in my life. I’ve been working in Vancouver almost non-stop since BLY MANOR in 2019. We’ve done 4 series in 3 years, taking only a short break for the COVID lockdown in early 2020. BLY MANOR, MIDNIGHT MASS, MIDNIGHT CLUB & HOUSE OF USHER were each deeply challenging Three of these shows were produced during the pandemic, in the midst of ever-changing safety protocols designed to keep our tremendous cast and crew safe. It has been a privilege to work with such wonderful cast, directors, storytellers, crew, family and friends for so long, on THIRTY-FOUR EPISODES of television – the hardest and most rewarding job of my life Oh and they say ‘never meet your heroes’ but I would add ‘unless your heroes are @MarkHamill and @LangenkampH’ who are also as awesome as you hope and more. It was a real pleasure to work with them both, and I really hope I will have the chance to do so again.

The fall of House Usher will arrive after the Midnight Club

Fall of House Usher is based on the story of the same name by American gothic horror icon Edgar Allan Poe, and in addition to adapting that story for the screen, it will also incorporate other aspects of Poe’s work. Although few specific details have been released about the actual plot, Flanagan previously called it a modern update to the story first published in 1839, and it will likely follow in the footsteps of his The haunting… series.

However, before the arrival of the latest series of its current series of Netflix shows, Flanagan The Midnight Club will come to the platform later this year. Based on the YA book series by Christopher Pike, the series tells the story of a group of terminally ill teenagers who meet regularly to tell scary stories and attempt to locate supernatural entities. The Midnight Club arrives October 7. Fall of House Usher currently has no release date.
