The ENGO 2 head-up display cycling sunglasses weigh next to nothing

Posted on August 4, 2022 by Tyler Benedict

The new ENGO 2 cycling sunglasses incorporate a fully functional heads-up display, but weigh just 36g… about the same as the larger “shield” style goggles we already ride.

The ActiveLook HUD unit itself adds just 6g, and the sunglasses come in two sizes, Small (36g) and Large (41g). Just as impressive as their weight, they look like normal performance riding goggles, with your choice of white or black frames.

A 12-hour battery life keeps the screen working all day, and a full recharge only takes a few hours. UPDATE: The lenses are only available in the tinted and mirrored version shown here and are not photochromic, but the original (and still available) ENGO1 uses photochromic lenses to perform in a wider range of lighting conditions.

The display puts your choice of metrics right in your line of sight, so you won’t have to stare at your bike computer…and so you can keep your eyes on the road (or your competitors). Choose from all the usual data points – power, cadence, heart rate, speed, distance, etc. For runners, it can also display your pace.

Their companion app lets you customize screens, and yes, that’s SCREENS, plural. Set up multiple screens, then simply wave your hand in front of the glasses to “swipe” through them.

ENGO 2 sunglasses pair via Bluetooth to their app (available for iOS and Android), as well as Garmin and Suunto cycling computers and watches. Available for pre-order now for $329, they should start shipping in late summer.
