“The world’s largest train exhibit” combines history with fun

WEST CHESTER, Ohio – When it comes to history education and entertainment, a train-themed family entertainment center near Cincinnati is on the right track.

With 25,000 square feet of track, Entertrainment Junction is the world’s largest indoor model train exhibit.

With stories placed along the many train routes, visitors can take a journey through history. The exhibit begins in the mid-1800s, when trains were just beginning to mark America. As visitors continue to browse the exhibit, they will see 1900s decor that highlights the golden age of passenger travel. The display ends in a modern cityscape.

Bill Balfor has been the Managing Director since the space opened in 2008.

“One of the perks of working here is that your job is to help people have fun,” Balfour said. “There are a lot of funny little things that are hidden in the display of the train that people find.”

Along the trail is a drive-in cinema, a mid-1900s Coney Island, a handmade Civil War camp, interactive elements, and more. Most of the exhibit was built by volunteers from the local train club.

“What happened was they would put something in it and then say ‘I think I can build a better one,’” Balfour said. “So you would have a little house, and then they would put lights in it and do little scenes. “

Entertrainment Junction is also home to a children’s playground, outdoor rides, an exhibition center, and the American Railroad Museum.

“One of my favorite things is seeing a little kid being dragged around by their parents because they don’t want to leave,” Balfour said. “I want people to leave man, that was amazing.”

Junction of entertainment is located in West Chester. Inside, visitors can also walk through an old-fashioned funhouse with a maze of mirrors, special effects, and optical illusions.
