In 2013, a flood devastated the city of Lyon, including the city’s mobile park. The homes were left underwater and unsalvageable, Kenyon Waugh, CEO and part owner of WeeCasa Tiny House Resorts, told Insider.

In the aftermath, the owner looked for new ways to use the land. Waugh, who lived in Lyon, said he bought the property and joined in the brainstorming.

Waugh, the owner, and a handful of other partners pitched ideas for the 10-acre lot. The first idea was to turn part of the land into a wedding venue, which is what half the land is used for today.

The second idea came from Waugh. He suggested turning the land into a small village for travellers, he said.

And that’s what they did. In 2015, Waugh and his partners opened WeeCasa Tiny House Resorts with 10 tiny houses on wheels. “We didn’t know if anyone would come,” Waugh said.

But travelers came along, Waugh said, and after a successful first season, WeeCasa added seven more Tiny Homes. Today, WeeCasa has 22 tiny homes that can be rented from $149 a night.

Each house has its own design and layout. “They’re all different and that’s the good thing about them,” Waugh said, adding that the homes WeeCasa bought cost around $100,000 each. Here is a glimpse of the interior of the complex.

From there, customers can drive to their little homes. The village is a big loop and each little house is numbered.

As guests explore the village, they will spot tiny houses with porches and some without. They may notice a small house with bumps while another has large windows. No house in the village is alike.

Some are bigger than others, Waugh said, adding that “people want the biggest little house you can get.” The Sequoia is one of WeeCasa’s largest tiny homes at 400 square feet. It starts at $229 a night and sleeps six.

Inside the Sequoia is a cozy little house filled with wood. The main floor features a full-size kitchen, propane fireplace, and living room with a sleeper sofa. Upstairs there is a loft with a queen bed and two twin beds.

Apart from the tiny houses, the main attraction of WeeCasa is the exterior. The property has communal fire pits, picnic tables and outdoor games.
